The world of community development exists as a loosely connected network of thousands of individual groups and organizations. Small to large, local to global, working either on specific issues such as access to clean drinking water or integrated holistic models such as permaculture or the solidarity economy. Environmentalist and author, Paul Hawken, has described this global amorphous network as the largest social movement in history.
This movement is both deeply imbedded and rapidly expanding but has so far flown under the radar of mainstream popular discourse. Although the world of community development has managed to generate numerous in-the-field proven tools and practices, these have not found their way into commercial application, meaning that developing communities remain woefully underserved by markets.
Green Island Group was founded with the purpose of synthesizing this movement’s proven tools and practices into scalable solutions, easily adopted by local communities.
